Today’s news follows the launch of real-time lyrics on Spotify in 26 markets in June, 2020, with lyrics now being made available to all Free and Premium users globally across iOS and Android devices, desktop, gaming consoles, and TV.
Spotify says that lyrics are one of its listeners’ most requested features globally.
To access the real-time lyrics on mobile, you’ll need to tap on the ‘Now Playing View’ on a song and then, while listening, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
Spotify says that you should then see track lyrics that scroll in real time as the song is playing.
On the Spotify desktop app, you’ll need to click on the microphone icon in the ‘Now Playing’ bar while a song is playing and, the track lyrics should start scrolling in real time while the song plays.
Italy-born lyrics provider Musixmatch was established in January 2010.
Over 500,000 artists now manage their lyrics directly through Musixmatch, including the likes of Drake, Billie Eilish, The Rolling Stones, Dua Lipa, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift and others.
Spotify has previously worked with Musixmatch, with the latter company providing lyrics for a karaoke-style feature on SPOT’s desktop version that was launched in 2015.
That was until May 2016, when the partnership between the two companies ended.
